Playing a character with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), commonly known as split personality, is proving quite a challenge for Jennylyn Mercado, who is portraying one in the ongoing GMA-7 drama series “Rhodora X.”
She admits, “It is so difficult. It took some time before I was able to make the necessary acting adjustments to make my portrayal of the character’s duality quite convincing.”
On “Rhodora X,” Jennylyn’s character was kidnapped as a young girl. When rescued years later, she exhibited another persona – that of a scheming and manipulative woman.
Despite having taken on what seems to be quite a stressful role, Jennylyn looks radiant, prompting some scribes to ask her if she is in love.
The actress maintained that she is currently single and “happy about it.”
She is naturally “ligawin” but at the moment, Jennylyn prefers to stay single.
“I am not ready for a relationship just yet. I would rather go home after work and spend time with my family,” she said.
She stressed, “Romantic relationships aren’t always permanent. I’d rather surround myself my friends, real friends who allow for trust and respect.”
Yasmien Kurdi, who plays Jennylyn’s character’s sister on “Rhodora X,” revealed that she has a serious problem with her vocal cord or voice box. “It’s difficult to swallow,” she related.
She is due for operation when “Rhodora X” ends. “But I’m getting a second opinion,” she said.
Yasmien is also a singer. She has been singing before she became an actress. “I do not like to lose my singing voice,” she added.
She told us about a scene in the series where she was supposed to apply mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on Jennylyn’s character. Instead of doing so, she was surprised to find herself “kissing” Jennlyn.
“But there was no malice on my part,” she insisted.
The second take was done with a “cover-up,” according to Yasmien, who is a nursing graduate due to take her board exam soon.
Asked to name the most trying scene on the series, she said, “When I was held inside a container. It was so difficult for me.”
Former ABS-CBN contract star, Martin del Rosario, a new addition to the cast of “Rhodora X,” said that he finds more opportunities with GMA-7. He has a well-built body, and he can easily become a ramp model.
Boots Anson-Roa also has a special role on “Rhodora X” as the maternal grandmother of Rhodora (Jennylyn) and Angela (Yasmien).

Alagang Kapatid Foundation receives P2-M donation
In time for Megastar Sharon Cuneta’s renewal of contract as endorser of Tempra for Kids, its makers, Taisho Pharmaceuticals, donated P2 million to TV5’s Alagang Kapatid Foundation, Inc. (AKFI) to support its continuing rehabilitation and recovery projects in “Yolanda”-devastated areas in the country.
It can be recalled that in December 2013, when TV5 held a special telethon to raise funds for Alagang Kapatid Foundation’s calamity response to the typhoon-stricken provincial areas, the Megastar called on her Tempra family to donate much needed medicines for the typhoon survivors. Taisho Pharmaceuticals immediately responded to the call and sent 5,000 bottles of Tempra syrup, which were distributed by AKFI to various hospitals in Samar and Leyte.
The Megastar herself donated a generous amount to AKFI, saying that she could not let down Visayas (and Mindanao), whose people have been very supportive of her career since she started singing at age 12.
To date, AKFI has served 75,965 families and 8,388 individuals with food, non-food and, recently, shelter repair kits. For more information on AKFI, like the AKFI Facebook page
