As a Kapuso star marked a significant milestone in his life, several other celebrities from the same network have been recognized for their invaluable contributions to the industry.
Bankable actor Dingdong Dantes received his diploma from West Negros University for completing his Techno Management course.
The 33-year-old heartthrob was with his parents Angeline and Jose Sixto Dantes, along with girlfriend Marian Rivera, at the commencement exercises held last Sunday.
As seen in photos circulating online, Dingdong wore a Randy Ortiz barong adorned with a graduation sash during the ceremonies.
On Instagram, Marian posted a photo of herself with her boyfriend and his parents while inside a car, captioned: “We are proud of you mahal.”
After the graduation ceremony, Dingdong celebrated with a special dinner attended by family and friends.
It took the actor 16 years to accomplish the feat.
Earlier, Dingdong took Philosophy and Human Resource Development at San Beda College. He also tried Interdisciplinary Studies and Communication Art courses at the Ateneo de Manila University.
“Sabi ko talaga, kailangang dumating ‘yung pagkakataon kung saan talagang matatapos ko siya. And finally… after so many years when I started college in 1998, matatapos na rin siya sa wakas,” he told “24 Oras” in an earlier interview. “Siyempre naman, we’re advocating for education, so we should also practice what we preach.”
Dingdong hopes that his efforts would be an inspiration to others.
To further motivate young students, the actor pushed for the “One Chair One Child” project that aims to provide chairs to the students of Iloilo City, which was battered by Typhoon “Yolanda” last year.
“Para bawat isa sa kanila (ay) may bagong upuan pagdating ng June,” he said. “Malay mo, ang uupo roon ang magiging susunod na doktor, scientist, abogado or maybe one of the next leaders of our country.”
